However, recent setbacks in the Championship might cause Leeds and manager Daniel Farke to reconsider their transfer plans. A couple of disappointing results have allowed Sheffield United to catch up, leveling the points between the two teams.
Previously, Leeds United had been linked with numerous players in anticipation of what many expected—and still expect—to be a bustling summer transfer window, as they prepare for a potential return to the Premier League.
However, a 1-0 loss to Portsmouth on Sunday served as a stark reminder to the 49ers and everyone at Elland Road that their work in the Championship is far from complete this season.
Leeds fans may now be anxious about the possibility of another playoff battle, especially after seeing Sheffield United draw level on 76 points. Burnley sits in third place with 74 points, while Sunderland holds fourth with 68 points. All three teams secured victories over the weekend, while Leeds suffered a defeat.
Nicolas Kuhn makes clear commitment to Celtic amid Leeds United links:
Among the players Leeds could target for a potential Premier League push is Celtic’s Nicolas Kuhn, who has been described as ‘outstanding’ by pundit Carlton Palmer.
The 25-year-old winger, formerly of Ajax and Bayern Munich, has been in sensational form during the 2024/25 season, amassing an impressive 31 goal contributions (18 goals and 13 assists across all competitions).
However, Kuhn has made it clear that he has no intentions of leaving Celtic Park anytime soon. In a recent interview with Sunder Mirror [print edition, pg. 46], Kuhn stated:
“When I signed here, I said the challenge was to win everything. And so far, it has been really great to be here, I’ve really liked it. Hopefully, there will be some more trophies to come this season. And my contract here runs until 2029, so I’m very much looking forward to what is ahead.”
Leeds United have one winger firmly in their sights:
Kuhn is currently a highly sought-after player, attracting interest from clubs across England and Europe. While pursuing him would be an ambitious move for Leeds, it remains an exciting prospect.
However, with Kuhn seemingly committed to staying in Scotland, Leeds may shift their focus to securing a summer deal for Tottenham loanee Manor Solomon.
Leeds United, however, face stiff competition in their pursuit of Solomon, with Southampton and Everton also reportedly interested in the Israeli winger. Solomon appears likely to leave Tottenham this summer as part of a broader reshuffle at the North London club.
Leeds will return to Championship action on Wednesday night with a home game against Millwall. Meanwhile, Sheffield United and Burnley will face Bristol City and West Brom respectively on Tuesday night.
