EXCLUSIVE: NC State set to hire Will Wade as their…

North Carolina State University has reached an agreement with Will Wade to become the next head coach of its men’s basketball team, according to multiple reports. Wade, currently leading the McNeese State Cowboys, is expected to finalize the deal following the conclusion of McNeese’s participation in the NCAA Tournament.

Wade, 42, has compiled an impressive coaching record over 11 seasons, boasting a 253-106 overall record. His career includes successful tenures at Chattanooga, VCU, and LSU. At McNeese State, Wade led the Cowboys to consecutive Southland Conference championships and back-to-back NCAA Tournament appearances, marking a historic achievement for the program.

During his time at LSU, Wade’s tenure ended amid controversy following an NCAA investigation into recruiting violations. He was dismissed in 2022 after being implicated in making impermissible payments to a recruit’s handler, leading to a 10-game suspension and a two-year show-cause penalty.

Despite his past infractions, Wade’s coaching acumen has remained evident. His ability to transform McNeese State into a competitive force in a short period has not gone unnoticed. NC State’s decision to pursue Wade underscores the university’s commitment to revitalizing its men’s basketball program, which recently experienced a downturn, culminating in the dismissal of former head coach Kevin Keatts following a disappointing 12-19 season.

Wade’s candid approach regarding his potential move to NC State has been noteworthy. In a recent press conference ahead of McNeese’s NCAA Tournament game against Clemson, Wade openly acknowledged discussions with NC State, emphasizing transparency with his players to maintain focus amid swirling rumors.

As Wade prepares to lead McNeese State in their upcoming tournament game, the basketball community awaits the official announcement of his appointment at NC State. The Wolfpack faithful are hopeful that Wade’s proven track record and coaching prowess will usher in a new era of success for the program
