MusaStephy Mavididi could be set to miss out on a second title in three seasons, according to reports in Italy.
Corriere della Sera claim that the Leicester City winger, who has three years left on his contract at the King Power, is being eyed by Atalanta as a potential reinforcement, amid speculation over the future of former City loanee Ademola Lookman.
The 27-year-old, who spent the 2021/22 season on loan at the Foxes, has been a sensation for Atalanta to the point where he has been linked with a big-money move. So far, the Serie A side have turned down the temptation to cash in on the Londoner.
But the report claims they have also been interested in Mavididi since 2020 and have “returned” to the player, who was outstanding in helping Leicester to promotion in his first season but fell somewhat between the sticks during last season’s turmoil.
In the end, Mavididi made just 16 Premier League appearances, but managed to score six goals and provide an assist in 33 appearances in a team that lacked solidity at the back and a leading edge in attack.
Bologna and Spanish side Villarreal are “also keen” on the player, who joined Arsenal before moving to Juventus as a 20-year-old. Both are said to be keeping a close eye on him.
City’s stance on him is less clear. They will be mindful of the impact he had under Enzo Maresca before Ruud van Nistelrooy cited a lack of consistency as the reason he left last season.
Whether van Nistelrooy stays in charge or City feel pressure to cash in on a player of obvious value could be a factor. City also have Jeremy Mongo, Kasey McAteer, Jordan Ayew and Bobby De Cordovo-Reid among their options.
