Bryan Mbeumo’s off-camera plea after Newcastle United, Man United and Spurs transfer talk

Bryan Mbeumo has insisted he “really can’t talk” about his future.

Mbeumo has been in high demand after Liverpool talisman Mohamed Salah and Newcastle United star Alexander Isak were the only players to score more goals in the Premier League last season.

It’s no wonder Mbeumo was a top target for Newcastle, but the Brentford striker’s wage demands have proven a major stumbling block for the Magpies, who spent less on wages than six of their rivals in the top flight’s latest financial statements.

Mbeumo has also privately hinted that he wants to join Manchester United, but the Cameroon star has been tight-lipped about his future.

In fact, Mbeumo insisted off-camera ahead of an interview with Sky Sports at the Canadian Grand Prix that he “really can’t talk about it”.

Mbeumo only briefly touched on the summer of intense speculation, saying it was “a bit new” for him and that he “has to come to terms with it”.

Manchester United had an initial bid of £45m plus £10m in add-ons rejected by Brentford, and the Red Devils face competition from Spurs as new boss Thomas Frank looks to reunite with Mbeumo quickly.

“He’s done so much for me,” Mbeumo said of his former manager at the weekend. “He trusted me from the start and developed the team so well.

“He’s developed me as a person and as a player. I can only wish him all the best and I’m sure he’ll do well.

“I think he knows everything. He’s really smart. He knows where he wants to take the team, how he wants to play. He’s been fantastic for Brentford.

“I think he’ll have some time to adapt, of course. It’s going to be different for him now. UCL games, more expectations, but I’m sure he’ll do well. He knows how to talk to people. He knows how to build a group.”
