MusaCeltic fans love nothing more than to see a player who takes them off their seats.
When Celtic signed Jota, the fans were excited, knowing that the Portuguese was one of the best dribblers and entertainers they had seen at Parkhead in recent memory.
Before that, Paddy Roberts and Lubomir Moravcik were the other two wingers Celtic fans revered and were happy to see wear the green and white rings.
And now it seems Celtic fans can look forward to next season after Marc Rieper told them Brendan Rodgers is set to sign a “really exciting” player this summer.
Benjamin Nygren ‘a really good signing for Celtic’
This morning we reported how Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Celtic’s deal for Benjamin Nygren had been done and that the Swede would sign a four-year deal with the option of a fifth.
And in response, Rieper hailed Celtic’s £1.2m signing as a big deal for the Hoops boss.
Rieper told the Sunday Mail: “It’s a really good signing for Celtic. Nygren was one of the best players in Denmark last season. A really exciting player.
“Nordsjaelland are incredible at developing players. They do it every year. They sell two or three every year for big money, over £10m. Then they just create new stars at 17 or 18.
“They’re probably the best in Europe at developing. They bought Nygren when he was an under-21 for Sweden but he didn’t have a huge reputation. They just nurtured him and made him what he is now.”
“They’re really good at it. He’s a full international for his country now and he’s doing well for them too.”
Marc Rieper says ‘Celtic fans will really like’ Benjamin Nygren
As we’ve mentioned, Celtic fans love to see a player who can beat the opposition defence with skill and trickery.
In Nygren, it seems Rodgers is on the verge of landing the kind of player Celtic fans would pay good money for.
Rieper continued: “I think Celtic have done a really good job with Nygren. I’m actually a bit surprised Nordsjaelland have managed to keep him for so long.
“His contract was coming to an end, so they were eager to let him go for free. They decided to keep him last season when there was some interest and try to get into the top six.
“They’ve done it. Now it’s time for him to move on. Nygren was one of the top seven or eight scorers in the Danish league last season. He’s got good technique from distance.
“As a winger he beats people because he’s got pace. He’s got good ball skills and he’s a really good passer, good at making connections with other players. He’s an exciting player. I think Celtic fans will really like him.”
Fotmob gave Nygren an average of 7.5 in the Danish Superliga last season. The Swede also completed 21 dribbles with a 56.8% success rate.
The winger also created 46 chances for Nordsjaelland last season, averaging 1.62 per 90 minutes.
If Rieper is right and judging by these statistics, it seems that Celtic fans will get a taste of Nygren next season.
