MusaSunderland Eye Key Signings to Strengthen Squad Ahead of Premier League Return
As they look to bolster their squad with quality additions, Sunderland are reportedly targeting three key signings ahead of the new Premier League season.
Among them is an ambitious move for Roma defender Angeliño, with incoming sporting director Florent Ghisolfi keen to bring the Spaniard to Wearside. According to Gianluigi Longari of Sport Italia, the Black Cats are exploring a deal for the 27-year-old, who made 51 appearances last season and remains under contract with the Serie A side.
Angeliño, valued at around £17 million, has previously attracted interest from Saudi club Al Hilal, as well as Premier League sides Crystal Palace and Bournemouth. Crucially, he has a strong connection with Ghisolfi, having worked under him at Roma—a factor that could give Sunderland an edge in negotiations.
Gazzetta.it (via TMW) reports that Ghisolfi is pushing to sign Angeliño for Sunderland, with an offer likely to be submitted soon. Roma are open to a sale before June 30 to comply with financial regulations, meaning a suitable bid could see the former RB Leipzig full-back depart despite his strong end to the 2024/25 campaign.
Laurienté and Dasilva Also on Sunderland’s Radar
In addition to Angeliño, Sunderland are reportedly pursuing Sassuolo winger Armand Laurienté and Brentford midfielder Josh Dasilva.
Laurienté, a £17 million-rated forward, enjoyed a standout season in Serie B, contributing 18 goals and six assists. According to Il Sussidiario, Sunderland are prepared to meet Sassuolo’s valuation, with talks already underway. The 25-year-old Frenchman—who previously worked with new Sunderland boss Régis Le Bris at Lorient—offers versatility, pace, and creativity in attack.
Meanwhile, Dasilva has emerged as a target for both Sunderland and Fulham, as reported by SportsBoom. The out-of-contract Brentford midfielder, once a key figure in their promotion-winning side, has been sidelined since January 2024 due to a serious knee injury. Despite his recent absence, his talent and experience make him an intriguing option on a free transfer.
