Rod Stewart and his glamorous backing singers brought Paradise to Glastonbury today as they took to the Pyramid Stage in full Celtic regalia.
The 80-year-old music legend dazzled in a green suit and shirt with “Celtic” emblazoned on the back, capping off a sensational performance. His entire band and backing vocalists also sported the iconic Hoops jerseys, whipping the crowd into a frenzy just before closing their 90-minute set with We Are Sailing.
For his Legends slot on Glastonbury’s final day, Stewart welcomed special guests including Lulu, Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood, and Simply Red’s Mick Hucknall.
The show opened with a subtle jab at pro-Palestine acts Kneecap and Bob Vylan, following their controversial remarks the previous day. Punk duo Bob Vylan had led chants of “death to the IDF” during their BBC-broadcast set, while Kneecap fans jeered Stewart’s name, mocking him as “Rod the Prod” and joking about his age.
However, Stewart was met with roaring cheers as he took the stage to the sound of bagpipes playing Scotland the Brave. Addressing the crowd, he said, “I’m here—enjoy yourselves, ladies and gentlemen!”
In what seemed like a nod to the previous day’s tensions, he remarked, *”Music brings us together—we need it. There’s been a lot about the Middle East lately, and rightly so, but I’d like to turn your attention to Ukraine with this next song, *The Love Train.”
His electrifying set included hits like Tonight I’m Yours and The First Cut Is the Deepest, along with a playful duet of Hot Legs with Lulu, who joked, “We’d make a great couple—sorry, Penny!” referencing Stewart’s wife, Penny Lancaster. Ronnie Wood later joined for a rendition of the Faces’ classic Stay With Me.
Before the festival, Stewart stirred debate by voicing support for Reform UK and Nigel Farage in a Times interview. When asked about Britain’s political future, he said, “We’re fed up with the Tories—let’s give Farage a chance. He’s coming across well. What other options do we have?”
