MusaJamie Carragher couldn’t resist poking fun at fellow Sky Sports pundit Gary Neville after Neville faced backlash from Nottingham Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis.
Neville was barred from the City Ground in May after criticizing Marinakis on social media. The incident occurred when the Forest owner stormed onto the pitch following a draw against Leicester. Reports now suggest Neville won’t be allowed to attend Forest’s season opener against Brentford, which Sky Sports will broadcast live on Sunday.
Seizing the opportunity, Carragher quipped: “Will you be at Forest, Gary?”
Marinakis had appeared to confront manager Nuno Espirito Santo after the match but later clarified he was checking on striker Taiwo Awoniyi, who collided with the post and later needed abdominal surgery. Neville, however, called Marinakis’ actions “scandalous” in a post on X, adding: “Nuno should go and negotiate his exit tonight with him! The Forest fans, players, and manager do not deserve that.”
Forest hit back with a statement condemning Neville, urging pundits to avoid “baseless and ill-informed outrage for social media traction.” Neville called the ban “disappointing,” saying while Forest had the right to control stadium access, the decision reflected poorly on the club.
This isn’t the first clash between Neville and Forest. Earlier this year, the club threatened legal action after Neville likened one of their statements—following a controversial defeat to Everton—to a “mafia-gang statement.” Forest had accused VAR official Stuart Attwell of bias, claiming they were denied three clear penalties.
Neville dismissed the statement as “embarrassing” and “like a petulant child.” Forest maintain Neville hasn’t been formally banned but won’t welcome him back until he shows more caution when discussing Marinakis.
