MusaBarry Ferguson believes Lawrence Shankland was a ‘no-brainer’ signing for Rangers in the summer transfer window.
The Heart of Midlothian striker bagged his 12th goal of the season against the Ibrox club on Sunday as Derek McInnes’ men won 2-1 at Tynecastle Park to strengthen their position at the top of the William Hill Premiership.
Quizzed on Go Radio on Monday evening about whether he would have signed Shankland for Rangers in the summer, Ferguson said: “It’s a no-brainer.
“He’s signed a three-year contract [at Hearts].
“Look at what he’s given Hearts, not just this season but in previous seasons. This season, he’s looked right on.
“I thought yesterday, watching the game, I thought he was excellent.”
Ferguson, who took interim charge of Rangers in the second half of last season, confirmed that he would have signed the 30-year-old had he remained at the helm: “I would’ve taken him in a heartbeat,” he added.
Former Celtic striker Andy Walker then gave his take on the situation.
He said: “He [Shankland] would’ve scored goals, and instead, you’re spending big bucks on Danilo, big bucks on [Youssef] Chermiti, neither of whom have delivered on a consistent basis.”
Rangers currently sit fourth in the Scottish top flight, 12 points behind Hearts, albeit with a game in hand.
They host Motherwell at Ibrox this weekend before St Mirren make the short trip to Govan on Tuesday.
Danny Rohl’s side then begin 2026 with an away match against Celtic on January 3.
