MusaFootage has emerged that suggests Rangers midfielder Nico Raskin was provoked before soaking an Aberdeen fan with water at Pittodrie.
Danny Rohl’s side ran out 2-0 winners on Sunday, courtesy of goals from Thelo Aaasgaard and skipper James Tavernier in either half. Five Premiership wins on the spin have propelled Gers into title contention, with just three points separating them from league leaders Hearts.
But controversy arose following the full-time whistle when Belgium star Raskin squirted a home supporter with water as he walked down the tunnel. It was a fiery atmosphere at Pittodrie, with Dons fans showing no love for the Glasgow giants.
And after receiving taunts from a fan, Raskin reacted by aim water at an individual who had remained in his seat to dish out more stick to the victors. Raskin could face punishment for his actions, which have been widely condemned in Scottish football.
But a longer clip shared by vlogger Blair McInally of the incident has now been unearthed that shows that the fan himself had thrown juice over the Rangers player before he lost his cool.
Gers boss Rohl refused to be drawn on the incident after the game, commenting: “I think we want to play football on the pitch. I think around we want to have a friendly atmosphere.
“If you look today, this place is tough to go. Even when I arrived, I felt straight where we are. But we showed the right answer on the pitch and that’s what we want.”
However, Raskin was hammered by Gers legend Kris Boyd and Record Sport columnist Chris Sutton, who drew parallels with a similar scenario last season where ex Ibrox loanee Vaclav Cerny soaked Hoops supporters during a 3-2 victory over their bitter rivals last March.
Boyd said: “You need to rise above it. You are going to be criticised, especially when you are a Rangers player coming up here, and not do what he has done there.
“He will probably be regretting it now. For me, if you are an away player you are going to get the fans taunting you. You just have to get on with it, and get down the road.”
Sutton: “He is such a talented player, he is an important player – he can’t be doing that. Cerny did that the other year against Celtic, I don’t think there was any punishment for that.
“Rangers players can’t be treated differently to other players. This is a powder keg of a fixture anyway. This is the last thing this fixture needs.”
