MusaAston Villa are pushing ahead with plans to sign AC Milan star Ruben Loftus-Cheek on loan this month, according to the Daily Mail.
Those problems have seen the club dip their toe into the market to try and find potential solutions before the February 2nd deadline, and they have now settled upon their top target.
Aston Villa Pushing for Loftus-Cheek Loan
Loftus-Cheek, who has been described as ‘a beast’, has found regular first-team football hard to come by at Milan so far this season, starting just eight times in Serie A.
With Premier League experience as a two-time winner at Chelsea, Villa are keen to bring him back to England and have him compete as a member of their midfield to cover for their new injury issues. The club have previously made contact over a deal, and now they are pushing ahead with plans to get a deal over the line.
Villa were also offered former midfield star Douglas Luiz on loan, despite him currently being on loan at Nottingham Forest from Juventus, but they have decided against pursuing that deal.
Loftus-Cheek recently earned a surprise recall to the England national team under Thomas Tuchel, who he played under at Chelsea, and he feels that if he is able to find a home to play regularly then he could potentially break into the World Cup squad this summer.
Loftus-Cheek Would Boost Villa’s Title Charge
With Kamara and McGinn sidelined for the foreseeable future, Emery has limited midfield options with Youri Tieleman and Amadou Onana his only natural choices, while Lamar Bogarde and Victor Lindelof can also play there in an emergency.
By bringing in a player with the qualities and experience of Loftus-Cheek, Villa would be able to strengthen their squad and also continue their charge for the Premier League title, and also potentially in the Europa League knockout stages too.
The Villa owners need to back Emery if they want to see continued success, and with a deal to sign Tammy Abraham on the verge of being completed for the striker role to replace Donyell Malen, all eyes turn to see if they can bring a midfielder in too.
