OPENING SCENE: October 24, 2021. The King Power Stadium. The FA Community Shield. Leicester City, FA Cup winners, walk out at Wembley. A slow-motion shot of Kasper Schmeichel lifting the cup. The roar of the fans.
VOICEOVER (VARYS, a lifelong Leicester fan, 65): “People ask me, ‘When did it stop being about 2016?’ And I tell ‘em… it never did. That wasn’t the start of our story. And it definitely weren’t the end. It was the beautiful, impossible explosion right in the middle.”
ARCHIVAL FOOTAGE: Grainy, black-and-white clips of Leicester in the 1920s. The 1997 play-off final under Martin O’Neill. The despair of relegation to League One in 2008.
CUT TO: Interviews with family members of the late Vichai Srivaddhanaprabha. Home video footage of him first visiting the club in 2010. A soft-spoken Thai billionaire seeing not just a football club, but a community.
AIYARAT SRIVADDHANPRABHA (Vichai’s son and now Chairman): “My father’s philosophy was simple: ‘From the heart.’ It was not a business calculation. It was a promise.”
[EPISODE 2: THE ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE]
TITLE CARD: 2015/2016 SEASON
A masterfully edited sequence. The frantic final moments of the 4-3 win over Aston Villa. Jamie Vardy breaking the record, screaming “WANKERS!” at the camera. N’Golo Kanté, a humble smile, covering every blade of grass. Riyad Mahrez, dancing with the ball. Claudio Ranieri, eating pizza, with a twinkle in his eye.
This is not just a re-telling. The documentary uses never-before-heard audio from the dressing room, sourced from player’s personal recorders and club archives. We hear Ranieri’s calm, measured team talks, and the chaotic, joyous shouts of the players after another win.
JAMIE VARDY (archive audio, breathless after a match): “I’m absolutely fucked. But we’ve done it again. What is happening?”
WES MORGAN (in a new interview, shaking his head with a smile): “You could feel the doubt in the world. But in that dressing room, the belief was a physical thing. It was like a sixth man on the pitch.”
The episode climaxes with “The Slip.” Tottenham dropping points at Chelsea. The Leicester players at Vardy’s house, spilling beer, screaming.
CUT TO: The next day. The parade. 250,000 people in a city of 330,000. The helicopter carrying the trophy over the sea of blue. Unforgettable.
[EPISODE 3: THE FISSURE]
ecstasy of the promotion race. Winning the title at the last.
ENZO MARESCA (in broken, passionate English): “The past is a shadow here. A long, beautiful shadow. But we must walk in new light.”
FINAL SCENE: The opening day of the 2024/25 Premier League season. The players walk out at a packed King Power. The camera pans across faces in the crowd: old fans who remember 2016, young fans for whom it’s legend, all united.
VARYS (VOICEOVER): “They’ll always talk about the 5000-to-1. But that’s just the numbers. The real story is what it did to us. It made us believe that anything is possible. And then it taught us that miracles have to be cared for, fought for, and sometimes mourned. This isn’t a fairy tale. It’s our life. And we’re still writing it.”
FINAL SHOT: A slow zoom on the corner of the stadium where the Khun Vichai memorial stands, flowers fresh. Then, the whistle blows, and the game begins anew.
