3 more managers for Leicester City as managerial search drags on

Leicester City are still on the hunt for a new boss after dismissing Marti Cifuentes, and have been dragged into a relegation battle since he left.
Leicester City are searching for a new manager after parting company with Martí Cifuentes last month. Since then, the Foxes have been hit with a six-point deduction, while reports suggest the club are also attempting to appoint a new sporting director alongside their managerial search.

One name surprisingly linked with the role is former England manager Gareth Southgate. However, reports suggest that Southgate currently has no intention of returning to club management in the near future.

Many other names have been linked over the last few days, including Sean Dyche. However, most bosses linked with the role will likely require a lot of convincing and a decent wage.

As the search for a new boss drags on, LCFC look to be a way off making an appointment. LCFC currently sit 21st in the Championship table, only above Blackburn Rovers in 22nd on goal difference, and they have just appointed Michael O’Neill as their manager.

With that said, here are three bosses that Leicester City should look at to replace Cifuentes…

Bo Svensson

Danish manager Bo Svensson has been out of work since departing Union Berlin in December 2024. However, after a solid spell in charge of 1. FSV Mainz 05 beforehand, the 45-year-old could represent an intriguing option to consider.

Svensson has a track record of working with young players, having held youth coaching roles at Mainz and within the Red Bull setup. A return to the dugout, this time in England, could prove an appealing opportunity.

The Leicester City job will no doubt interest a boss like Svensson. However, his financial demands may rule him out.

Mark van Bommel

Although still best known for his distinguished playing career, Mark van Bommel’s work in his most recent role at Royal Antwerp demonstrated his ability to succeed in the dugout following more challenging spells with PSV Eindhoven and VfL Wolfsburg.

Van Bommel won more than half of his matches in Belgium. He guided Antwerp to a league and cup double, as well as lifting the Belgian Super Cup in 2023.

Should the hierarchy look overseas in their search for a new manager, Van Bommel could well emerge as a candidate on their radar.

Carlos Carvalhal

Last but not least is Carlos Carvalhal, who left SC Braga for a second time this summer.

The former Sheffield Wednesday and Swansea City manager has enjoyed success across two spells in Portugal, with stints at Al-Wahda, Celta Vigo and Olympiacos coming in between.

Carvalhal would represent an ambitious target for LCFC. However, following the way Cifuentes’ tenure has unfolded, a dependable appointment could go a long way towards convincing supporters of the club’s long-term vision and ambitions.
