‘Noises from Rotterdam’ about Aston Villa paying big fee for signing – Desire for blockbuster transfer

Aston Villa have become the latest club to be linked with a move for Feyenoord’s Igor Paixão.

The striker played for the Dutch club last season, scoring 18 goals and providing 19 assists in 47 appearances. There have already been claims that Aston Villa are looking at a move this summer.

Algemeen Dagblad reports that “sounds from Rotterdam” this weekend suggest that Aston Villa are prepared to pay a lot for Paixão.

Robin van Persie’s side rewarded the 24-year-old with a new contract until 2029 last November. The report now claims that Feyenoord are looking to earn a fee they have never received before.

Feyenoord earned €32m each from the sale of Santiago Giménez and Mats Wieffer to AC Milan and Brighton & Hove Albion respectively. That is their record sale, and the Eredivisie side are apparently looking for more than €32m for the Brazilian.

Despite claims that Aston Villa are prepared to meet Feyenoord’s demands, AD insists that Paixão’s exit is “still a long way off at the moment.”

Globo Esporte spoke to the Feyenoord star and asked him about his future plans. The player is keen to make the leap to a more competitive league and Aston Villa could help him do that.

“Showing football, being recognised by big clubs is gratifying. I dream of joining a big team, it’s the fruit of my work. If it’s meant to happen, it will happen,” he said.
