Leeds closing in on “underrated” striker who’s scored over 200 career goals

Leeds United Nearing Deal for Experienced Striker to Solve Attacking Woes

Daniel Farke appears close to addressing Leeds United’s attacking concerns, with the club reportedly on the verge of signing a seasoned striker.

Farke Seeking Offensive Reinforcements
Despite bringing in six new players this summer, Farke has openly admitted that Leeds’ current frontline isn’t yet Premier League-ready. While defensive additions like Jaka Bijol have strengthened the backline, the focus has now shifted to bolstering the attack.

With just one month remaining in the transfer window, the big question is who will arrive to elevate Farke’s attack. Early links to Rodrigo Muniz and Beto have faded, forcing Leeds to explore other options.

Young Talents on the Radar
Liverpool’s Ben Doak has emerged as a potential target, with the 19-year-old winger available for around £20m following an impressive loan spell at Middlesbrough. Another name in the mix is Jonathan Rowe, familiar to Leeds fans from his Norwich City days. The England U21 international is reportedly a key target, though the club must decide whether to meet his £17m valuation.

However, before pursuing either youngster, Leeds seem to have turned their attention to a proven veteran—a striker with over 200 career goals.

Leeds Leading Race for Mehdi Taremi
According to Corriere dello Sport (via TeamTalk), Leeds are now closing in on Inter Milan’s Mehdi Taremi, having overtaken West Ham and Nottingham Forest in the race for his signature.

Taremi fits Farke’s demand for Premier League-caliber quality. The 33-year-old boasts an impressive resume, having played for Porto and Inter Milan while racking up over 200 career goals. Last season, he contributed three goals and nine assists across all competitions, proving he can still influence games—even if his role has evolved into more of a creator than an out-and-out scorer.

Despite a limited role at Inter, Taremi earned high praise from club legend Clarence Seedorf, who highlighted his impact in the Champions League semi-final against Barcelona:
“He was attacking, defending, and even won duels against Lamine Yamal. He made a real difference. Mehdi has been underrated here all year.”

With such pedigree, Taremi could be the missing piece in Farke’s quest to prepare Leeds for top-flight football.
