January 3: Brennan Johnson’s Goodbye Message to Spurs After Joining Crystal Palace Causes Stir
In the first notable transfer of the January winter, Brennan Johnson has left Tottenham Hotspur for Crystal Palace in a £35m transfer. However, the winger’s rather short goodbye message has caused a bit of a stir online.
Johnson, who scored the Europa League-winning goal last season, simply wrote five words as he bid farewell to his now-former club: “Been a ride. Thank you.”
As such, some Spurs fans took issue with the lack of substance to his goodbye. One wrote: “Is that it? Yikes.” Another said: “He’s not happy, he’s given us 5 words.” A third wrote: “Wow, that was short.” One more said: “It was rude.”
Others, however, defended Johnson. Some pointed out that he did share a video alongside the post, while others noted that he had suffered plenty of abuse during his time in north London, so they could understand his short message.
One pointed out: “Weren’t we the same fanbase that abused this kid to the point where he deactivated socials?” Another noted, “Does he owe you much more? Honestly, contributed well, got incredible amounts of criticism – hardly worthy of huge paragraphs.” A final fan summed up the argument, writing: “I mean, to have been getting ripped apart by the fans, to then being forced out the club… he did well to even make a post.”
December 22: Mind-boggling Cost of Cristiano Ronaldo’s New Private Island Properties
Cristiano Ronaldo has bought two properties on a secluded private island off the coast of Saudi Arabia. The former Manchester United player currency lives in the Middle East, having signed for Al-Nassr in late 2022.
Ronaldo’s new homes are located in an exclusive resort in the Red Sea, a distant 800 miles from his current home in the Saudi capital of Riyadh. The villas are said to have been designed by renowned British architect Lord Norman Foster as part of a reserve that has been created for elite getaways.
As per reports in the Sun, the new property did not come for cheap either, with each costing around £3.5m, for a whopping combined fee of £7m. Still, Ronaldo won’t be short for cash, and seeing as it’s only accesible by seaplane or a boat, the privacy may well be worth it.
Speaking to the Saudi Gazette, Ronaldo seemed delighted with the deal, saying: “It’s truly exceptional in every sense of the word. From our first visit, Georgina and I felt a deep connection with this island and its breathtaking natural beauty. It’s a place where we find peace and tranquility.”
December 22: Federico Chiesa’s Actions When Isak Went Down Injured vs Spurs
Federico Chiesa, despite his lack of game-time at Liverpool, is a very popular figure at Anfield. Liverpool fans’ love for him grew even stronger this weekend following his actions when Alexander Isak went down injured vs Tottenham.
The Italian winger was warming up on the sidelines when Isak went down in pain after finding the back of the net. Fan footage has now gone viral on social media showing Chiesa sprint onto the pitch to check on his teammate as he lay in agony on the ground.
The video has attracted plenty of attention from Liverpool fans with many praising the 28-year-old. “This guy might be the most likeable player in Liverpool history,” one said, while another commented: “‘I want to keep him forever. Let him retire as a Red.” A third added: “‘Man, I love Chiesa. I wish I had a friend like him”.
Aston Villa picked up an impressive home win against Manchester United in the Premier League, with two goals from Morgan Rogers enough to seal the 2-1 victory. The Englishman’s two strikes sandwiched an equaliser from Matheus Cunha, but the Brazilian’s effort was ultimately not enough to earn any points for the away team.
With that victory, Unai Emery’s team have now won 10 games on the bounce. After recording this impressive feat, the social media team at Villa Park could not help but aim a little dig at their beaten opponents, writing: “That United fan could’ve had two haircuts.”
They are, of course, referring to Frank Ilett (The United Strand), who has vowed not to get his hair cut until Man United win five games in a row. Sadly for him, this defeat means his wait for a trip to the barbers goes on. Ilett will now pass through the entirety of 2025 without cutting his ever-growing locks.
Reacting to the post, one fan wrote: ‘This is diabolical’. Another put: ‘The cooking is legendary.’ While a final said: ‘This is elite banter.’
Napoli hero Scott McTominay clashed with former Chelsea star Fikayo Tomori during his team’s 2-0 Supercoppa Italiana win over AC Milan.
With less than 10 minutes to play, and the home team already in front by two goals, the Scottish midfielder made a foul. Instead of stopping immediately, though, he tried to continue and overran the ball into Tomori’s path. Although the whistle had been blown, the English defender then smashed the ball back at the Napoli star.
This sparked an angry response from McTominay, and players from both teams quickly rushed to the scene. In the end, the Scotland international had to be held back by his own teammates as the referee struggled to calm the players.
Both Brits walked away with a yellow card for their lack of discipline, but faced no further punishment. Napoli will now play either Bologna or Inter Milan in the final.
