He was let go by Everton in 2019, now he’s about to sign for Atletico Madrid in a £34m transfer

A number of former Everton players have enjoyed successful careers overseas.

Moise Kean has really kicked on since leaving Everton on a permanent deal in 2023, as he’s netted 31 goals in 69 appearances for Fiorentina.

Nikola Vlasic is also performing at a good level in Serie A, as he’s already reached 10 goal involvements for Torino this term.

Now, another former Toffees star is actually on the verge of joining La Liga giants Atletico Madrid for a substantial transfer fee.

Former Everton winger Ademola Lookman set to join Atletico Madrid

Ademola Lookman was a really exciting young talent when he first arrived at Everton from Charlton in January 2017.

However, it didn’t really work out for Lookman on Merseyside, as he netted four goals in 48 appearances for the Toffees.

Marco Silva decided to sanction Lookman’s sale in 2019, and since then, he’s gone from strength to strength.

Lookman has really kicked on at Atalanta, where he’s scored 55 goals whilst laying on 27 assists in 137 games.

That form has just earned him a £34m move to Atletico Madrid, according to Fabrizio Romano.

Romano posted: “Ademola Lookman to Atletico Madrid, here we go! The agreement is in place on every detail. €35m fixed fee, €5m add-ons to Atalanta and a long-term deal agreed by Lookman after decision last night.

“Atlético, planning now for travel and medical next for the Nigerian.”

Ademola Lookman has Premier League interest

Sky Sports are also reporting that Premier League clubs were showing an interest in Lookman before the Atleti move advanced.

Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea have eyed Lookman in the past, whilst West Ham United were linked more recently.

The 28-year-old hasn’t had the most productive season, netting just three league goals so far, so his stock has fallen a little bit over the last year or so.

Anyhow, a move to Atletico awaits the former Everton wide player, with Diego Simeone’s side currently sitting third in La Liga.
