MusaRecent reports have linked Todd Cantwell with a shock return to Rangers, though a move is considered highly improbable.
The midfielder departed Ibrox under difficult circumstances in 2024 following a falling out with then-manager Philippe Clement, having also submitted multiple transfer requests during his time at the club.
The 27-year-old failed to build a strong rapport with the Rangers supporters during his spell in Glasgow, and with those negative sentiments lingering, a potential comeback is not expected to be welcomed by the fanbase.
According to reports, the club does not view Cantwell as a viable option for the upcoming summer transfer window. With his contract at Blackburn Rovers set to expire in just over a year, speculation about his future is growing, but a return to Scotland is regarded as virtually out of the question.
Cantwell’s time at Ibrox was marked by a complicated relationship with the support, despite making 64 appearances, scoring 14 goals, and contributing 12 assists. Since his move back to England with Blackburn, he has produced consistent performances in the Championship, though the club’s precarious position near the relegation zone could prompt him to seek an exit.
Regardless of the uncertainty surrounding his next move, talk of a reunion with Rangers has been firmly dismissed, with both parties unlikely to be interested in reigniting the relationship.
Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, it was stated: “This link came out of nowhere, and I honestly cannot see Rangers entertaining the idea of bringing Cantwell back. His departure 20 months ago left a sour taste. A lot of fans were dissatisfied with how things ended—there was the clash with Philippe Clement, and he’d put in two transfer requests while at Ibrox. That behaviour didn’t sit well with the supporters, so I’d be very surprised if Rangers even considered making a move for him. The club has clearly moved on.”
Meanwhile, Bojan Miovski is another player reportedly unsettled at Rangers. Despite arriving with high expectations following his success at Aberdeen, the North Macedonia international has failed to establish himself as a key figure.
It has been suggested that Miovski could look to leave the club if his limited role under the current management continues. The 26-year-old has grown frustrated with his lack of game time, with the manager preferring Ryan Naderi and Youssef Chermiti in attacking roles. Over 21 appearances this season, Miovski has managed just four goals and one assist, falling short of the impact anticipated when he joined.
