Despite the player’s recent protests to the contrary, there seems to be an unwavering belief in Italy that the Milanese Newcastle United midfielder is determined to leave Tyneside and return to his homeland.

The notion ignores the following quote, which he told the Italian press last week. Tonali discussed why he wouldn’t be leaving Newcastle in a hurry, although he admitted he was a bit homesick. He told Sky Sport Italia: “I’m happy where I am now. I’ve found people who care about me and I care about them. I don’t want to break any of the bonds I’ve built.
“I’ve had a lot of thoughts every day, but I’m happy where I am at the moment.”
Tonali added: “Sometimes when I’m away from Italy for a long time or during long breaks, I miss coming home a little bit, but I always come back with the national team and I always give my best.”
“Here is a group that wants to be together and has to be here, united. There is a desire to spend these ten days as a real team, to stay close and try not to make things difficult for each other. That’s often where teams struggle, and we try to keep things simple.”
Tonali leaving Juventus?
Last weekend, it was reported that Juventus were keen to reignite interest in the player and would potentially try to lure the Magpies into a deal by using former Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz as bait. They wouldn’t bite.
And yet another Italian pundit has waded into the fray, claiming that embattled Juve director Cristiano Guintoli had drawn up a shortlist of three players – and Tonali’s name was on it.
Massimo Brambati, as reported by Tuttomercatoweb, said: “He told me that once the accounts are settled in the summer transfer window, he will go to the owners and ask for the green light to try three big moves: Osimhen, Tonali and Donnarumma.”
Juve or AC Milan or whoever they want can plan and shortlist whatever they want, but simply put, Newcastle are not in the mood to sell. All Juve would have to do is ask Manchester City, who failed in a very public pursuit of Tino Livramento, as the England Under-21 star is not for sale.
