Worryingly, Everton might be about to sign another Beto as bid submitted

Everton have struggled when it comes to recruiting strikers in recent times.

£26m was spent to sign Beto from Udinese back in August 2023 – but the man born in Lisbon has only managed to score 18 goals in 95 appearances so far.

Everton then paid £27m to sign Thierno Barry back in July, but the Frenchman has netted just three goals in 24 games for the Toffees so far.

David Moyes is evidently keen to find a new option as Everton have just bid for Youssef En-Nesyri of Fenerbahce, hoping to take the Moroccan on an initial loan deal with a €20m (£17m) option to buy.

However, the data suggests The Friedkin Group could be about to bring another Beto to the Hill Dickinson Stadium.

Ideally, Everton want to find a striker totally different to Beto and Barry, given how much the pair have struggled in England.

However, data website FBREF shows that En-Nesyri is actually the striker who is most similar to Beto across the last 365 days in football.

Not only that, but Barry is also fifth on the list of strikers similar to the Morocco international.

En-Nesyri is adjudged to be very poor when it comes to non-penalty goals, netting just 0.27 every 90 minutes, while the African forward is also weak at making shot-creating actions, with just 1.1 per game.

Every player is different in their own right, and the 28-year-old could adjust to the Premier League better than Beto and Barry have done if a move does materialise.

However, the statistics undoubtedly make concerning reading for Everton fans, as this loan deal with a £17m option to buy begins to progress.

Initial loan is a smart move by Everton

While the fact En-Nesyri plays like Beto and Barry is hardly ideal, Everton have seemingly learned from diving head first into an expensive deal by prioritising a loan first.

Fenerbahce are believed to be open to accepting the loan proposal with a £17m purchase option, which gives Everton a chance to effectively take the man born in Fes on trial before committing to any permanent deal.

If an agreement does end up materialising, we can only hope En-Nesyri disproves the data and plays nothing like how Beto or Barry have done for the Toffees.
