MusaNottingham Forest have endured a bit of a turbulent campaign to say the very least.
Forest have had four managers with Nuno Espirito Santo, Ange Postecoglou, Sean Dyche and Vitor Pereira all having a crack at getting the club back on the straight and narrow.
Still, with just five Premier League games remaining, Forest are outside of the bottom three with a five-point gap and also have a Europa League semi-final against Aston Villa to look forward to.
A number of Forest’s summer signings simply haven’t worked out this season and now, Mark Clattenburg has slated two of the additions.
Mark Clattenburg slams Omari Hutchinson signing
Hutchinson has become a first-team regular as the season has progressed at the City Ground, but Clattenburg isn’t a fan of the signing.
Speaking on the Whistleblowers Podcast, he was asked who was the worst signing in the Premier League this season, and he picked out Hutchinson, along with teammate James McAtee, for critique.
He said: “I’m going to say Omari Hutchinson to Nottingham Forest, and you could say McAtee at Forest as well.
“Those two players that Nottingham Forest signed, you could say were bordering on shambolic, strange, crazy that Omari Hutchinson was the record signing at £37.8 million for Nottingham Forest, and not to make the European squad initially was bonkers.”
In the grand scheme of things, Hutchinson hasn’t had a bad season, and there is a sense that there is a player in there somewhere.
One goal and seven assists could certainly be better for a winger in a counter-attacking team, and for £38 million, much more was to be expected from him.
However, his price tag is not something that he can do anything about, and it’s perhaps a little bit harsh on any Forest player, considering they’ve had four managers to contend with.
McAtee has barely played, and his signing does look a little bit poor given the outlay, but again, he’s a young player who Forest perhaps signed with one eye on the future.
Both players will hope to remain on Trentside beyond this season, and perhaps we can see more from Hutchinson and McAtee during the next campaign.
